PRODUCTION DESIGNER : Sausage Party: Foodtopia

Responsibilities included:

  • Interviewing and selection of candidates for creative roles

  • Managing creative teams at two different studios, and additional outsource artists

  • Leading client calls and reviews

  • Being responsible for ensuring all stages of production hit consistent style and quality

  • Strategic planning regarding scoping, scheduling and creative solutions

  • Creating designs

  • Mentoring designers, providing design paint overs

  • Creating overview colour scripts, and painting individual colour keys

  • Providing paint overs for assets, lighting, fx

  • Involved with scoping, scheduling and assigning tasks

ART DIRECTOR: The Dragon Prince

Matty worked on The Dragon Prince for several years.

In Season 3 he jointly took over the role of Art Director which icluded:

  • overseeing all creative departments including Design, Assets, LRC and Marketing

Prior to this, his initial role was BG Supervisor which included

  • Creating key development art to establish style and get a project greenlight

  • Environment designs

  • Creating matte paintings, cycs and the majority of the skies on the show

  • Defining the looks of the different cultures

  • Mentoring junior Designers, providing paint block ins, 3d block ins, paint overs and support

  • Mentoring junior BG Painters, providing paint block ins, 3d block ins, paint overs and support

  • Painting colour keys to guide lighting and comp departments

DESIGN SUPERVISOR : The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild

Working closely with the Art Director, responsibilities included:

  • Creating designs

  • Creating matte paintings

  • Creating preliminary 3d models of sets to explore staging and scope

  • Mentoring junior designers, providing design paint overs and support

  • Painting colour keys to guide lighting and comp departments

KEY BG ARTIST : Star Stable Mistfall

Working from simple layout drawings, Matty did key paintings for the series. These paintings were used to define the local colours, lighting, tone and style for the show.
